But could he handle being the number 2 of the team?

I second Shop-teacher’s assessment; qualifying is the only thing worth watching as it is. This would make races watchable.

Does the team get to choose where the ballast goes?

Being able to put 150 pounts wherever you want in a car could certainly have an advantage

I know in nascar they do and have customized weight loadouts per track. I assume F1 has similar

wiki

Prior to the 2014 F1 season, cars often weighed in under this limit so teams added ballast in order to add weight to the car. The advantage of using ballast is that it can be placed anywhere in the car to provide ideal weight distribution. This can help lower the car’s centre of gravity to improve stability and also allows the team to fine-tune the weight distribution of the car to suit individual circuits.

I’d have to. Theo would kick me out of the house for sure if I didn’t.

I could see that leading to awkward conversations.

Theo: Did you see my race?

Stef: Oh, was that on? I was rewatching The Grand Tour.

Theo: *raging inside* But you’re a RACING reporter!?!

Side note: My phone wanted to change racing into racist. Glad I caught that before I clicked publish!
